What is TFWS?
TFWS stands for Tuition Fee Waiver Scheme. A small percentage of seats in participating colleges are offered with the tuition fee waived, awarded purely on merit to eligible students whose family income falls below a defined limit.
It's a way for meritorious students from lower-income families to access colleges they might otherwise find unaffordable.
Who is Eligible?
Eligibility is typically tied to a family income ceiling (commonly cited around ₹8 lakh per year) plus the usual Maharashtra candidature and merit requirements.
How TFWS Seats Appear in the Option Form
TFWS seats are built into the choice form as their own choice codes — they're not a separate application. That means you add TFWS choices alongside your regular choices, in your preferred order.
If you're eligible, the TFWS code for a college effectively gives you a fee-waived path to that seat.
Pros and Cautions
The obvious benefit is significant savings on tuition over four years. Cautions: TFWS seats are limited and merit-driven, conditions (like maintaining eligibility) may apply, and the waiver usually covers tuition fees specifically — other fees may still apply.
