After Allotment, You Must Choose
When a CAP round allots you a seat, you don't just accept and relax — you tell the system what to do next. Your choice decides whether you lock that seat, chase a better one, or risk everything for an upgrade.
Freeze
Freeze means: 'I accept this seat and I'm done.' You confirm the allotment, withdraw from further rounds, and the seat is yours.
Choose Freeze when the allotted college-branch is genuinely what you want and you don't want to risk losing it for a marginal upgrade.
Float / Betterment
Float (sometimes presented as a betterment option) means: 'I'll keep this seat for now, but I want a chance at a higher preference in the next round.' If a better option on your list opens up, you're upgraded to it; if not, you keep your current seat as a safety net.
This is the most popular choice for students who are 'okay, but hoping for better.'
Slide
Where applicable, Slide is a narrower form of betterment — you stay open to a better option within the same institute (for example, a more preferred branch in the same college) rather than across all colleges.
Which Option Should You Pick — and the Risk of Rejecting
As a rule of thumb: Freeze if you're satisfied; Float/Betterment if you want an upgrade but can't afford to lose your current seat.
Be very careful about outright rejecting a seat to gamble on the next round — if the gamble doesn't pay off, you can be left with nothing. When the stakes are this high, it's worth talking the decision through with someone who knows the system before you click.
